Workforce Development Initiatives

The Nevada Contractors Association is dedicated to promoting the construction industry and all of the careers within it. As the industry is booming but is also at a shortage of workers, the NCA has started several initiatives to educate local middle and high school students on what the industry has to offer and the infinite available career opportunities within it!
Current Workforce Development Initiatives:

Career Fairs
NCA and CTEC members attend local career fairs to promote the industry, provide career and wage information, and educate students of the lucrative careers within the construction industry.

Michael T. Martin Memorial Scholarships
For students eager to pursue a construction career though college, trade school or educational programs/certifications, we offer multiple scholarships to help make your educational dreams come true! Click Here for more information.

Tool Drop Scholarships
Through our collaboration with dedicated CCSD teachers and counselors, junior and senior students can be nominated to receive a grand display of power activated tools to help further their construction skills and creativity.

Internship Program
The NCA has a 6-week paid internship program for high school students eager to learn the day-to-day operations with a participating construction company. Expand your knowledge outside of the classroom for a real-world experience and make key contacts for future networking. Click Here to apply!

Industry Professionals Panel Discussions
In partnership with the Nevada State Contractors Board, CTEC hosts several panel discussions throughout the school year.
Our panel of construction experts provide insight and new perspectives to students on the construction industry.

Construction Signing Day 2020
NCA Construction Signing Day hosts graduating high school students choosing a career in construction with their perspective companies. This is intended to be a media heavy event to showcase opportunities in construction!
*Currently seeking students who have recently received a job in construction to be highlighted at this event!
To participate, please email Emilie Kirkhus at emilie@nvcontractors.org.

Construction Career Day 2020
One of our largest annual events hosting over 4,000 middle and high students to learn and engage with construction experts, expo style. Equipment, information, hands on activities- this event includes it all! Click Here for our Construction Career Day page for further information.

House of Cards
This year, the NCA will be bringing back the House of Cards competition, where students will build their dream homes out of cards and drafting dots, for a chance to win the traveling trophy and the title of House of Cards Champions!

Counselor Meetings
The NCA conducts meetings with counselors to tell them about what skills/classes/certifications are necessary for construction jobs, as well as scholarship opportunities, wage information, and how to get a job in our industry.

Principal/CTE Coordinator Meetings
The NCA conducts meeting with high school Principals and CTE Coordinators to discuss and help implement construction curriculum in local schools.

Construction Classroom Renovations/Donations of Materials
The NCA has participated in renovating classrooms to help implement construction curriculum in schools such as Lied STEM Academy for their Construction program. As well as helping additional schools to acquire necessary materials for their programs to succeed, such as raising donations for Desert Rose High School's program to supply the students with proper PPE.
